csi 1024x770 - Mandela Day 2015   What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead” – Nelson Mandela    The 18th July is International Mandela Day, it was launched in recognition of Nelson Mandela’s  birthday on 18 July, 2009 via unanimous decision of the UN General Assembly.  It was inspired by a call Nelson Mandela made a year earlier, for the next generation to take on the burden of leadership in addressing the world’s social injustices when he said that “it is in your hands now”.  It is more than a celebration of Madiba’s life and legacy. It is a global movement to honour his life’s and act to change the world for the better. Global Access as a business and the staff within it are in a position of both privilege and fortune. South Africa sits with an above average unemployment and poverty rate, and we are grateful for the good fortune of having a and customers that require our services which in turn allows us to provide not only for the staff that here daily but our families to. As a business we do not look at operating as an isolated entity but rather as part of the broader social and economic area and have a responsibility of giving back to the community. With that vision in mind and as our contribution to Mandela Day for this year, Global Access supported “The House Group Shelter for Girls” based in Berea, as well as the surrounding community. Initiatives on this day were the donation of needed essential’s that they requested as well as manning and support of a soup kitchen during lunch. Mahatma Gandhi once said that “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others. We were happy to do just that on this day.
